Upalong Cottage is a charming holiday home located in the picturesque town of Fowey, Cornwall, England. This traditional grade II listed stone-built cottage is located moments from the waters edge and is situated in a prime location just a short stroll from the town’s vibrant harbour, restaurants, and boutique shops.
Upalong cottage has been lovingly restored to provide a comfortable and inviting retreat for up to four guests, whilst maintaining traditional character and charm. The ground floor of the cottage features a kitchen and living area with a gaslit cosy wood-burning stove, a comfortable sofa, and a dining table with seating for four. There is also a seated bay window with views of the water. The ceilings are low in the living area (1.81m between the beams) which adds to the character and charm. The kitchen is fully equipped with modern appliances and everything you need to prepare delicious meals during your stay.
Upstairs, there are two comfortable bedrooms, each with a simple and traditional charm. The master bedroom features a double bed while the second bedroom has twin beds. Both have fitted wardrobes offering plenty of storage and space for your belongings. There are two bathrooms, each with toilet and shower.
The roof terrace affords incredible views of the harbour and a cosy summerhouse to sit and relax and watch the world go by. Reached by climbing a flight of uneven stone steps, it’s a wonderful space to enjoy the day watching all the comings and goings on the river. It has a bench perfectly placed to watch the river tides with a good book or a glass of wine. Or if the elements turn, take shelter in the summerhouse. There is an outdoor dining table and chairs to enjoy al-fresco dining when the weather allows.
There is always something to watch on the river with Fowey being such a busy port. The larger clay ships are turned around by tugs directly opposite, this makes it easier for them when they leave. You will see lots of yachts, smaller sailing boats and the occasional cruise ship.
The cottage, like so many in Fowey, does not have parking. The nearby Harbour Office and the Albert Quay offers a small car park where there is limited space for short term and overnight parking. Of course, spaces are not guaranteed. This can be useful for unloading and also parking on the night before departure. You can temporarily park right next to the cottage to unload, tucking in next to Bull Hill. But be ready and quick, as traffic queues will quickly build up behind you. The locals and other holiday makers are mostly patient, as they’re all in the same boat.
